frequently do sports injuries occur?
More than 30 million children/teens are participants
in organized sports of some kind in the U.S. Children
under the age of 15 incur approximately 3.5 million injuries
yearly. Sports-related injuries are to blame for over
1/3 of those injuries, with sprains and strains being
the leader amongst them. Every sports carries with it
the tremendous potential for injury, whether from the
trauma of contact with other players or from overuse
or misuse of a body part. Contact sports like as football
and Hockey can be expected to result in a higher number
of injuries than a non-contact sport such as swimming.
Additional sport exposure occurs during unsupervised
free play. With this volume of activity, injury exposure
is significant.
